grythyttanvin.se - Background

Bröderna John och Per FritzellThe winery was founded by the Fritzell brothers (John & Per) in 1999. The establishment was preceded by several years of product developement. Per hatched the original idéa when visiting grandmother Esther in northern Norway. The preserved uncooked cloudberries she served him had through aging developed flavours that Per (as a professional wine expert) associated with exclusive dessert wines. The inovation "cloudberry wine" took shape.

In 2000 Grythyttan Hjortron (cloudberry), the first product from Grythyttan Vin, was introduced on the market. But soon the business concept was expanded "to produce and market exclusive fruitwines made out of wild berries from Sweden".

In 2001 Grythyttan Jakt (hunt) och Grythyttan Skogsglögg (forest glögg) was launched.

In the spring of 2007, a new type of fruitwine based on birch sap, Grythyttan Björkvin (birch wine) and Sparkling Björk (birch) was introduced.

Today the winery also produces exclusive vinegar, for example Grythyttan Hjortronvinäger (cloudberry vinegar).

Grythyttan Vin has its own high standard premises. The equipment is also modern, but still we apply the traditional methods of wine production. For example, the most exclusive fruitwines are stored in swedish oak barrels. In order to guarantee a high level of quality, the entire process is carried out by Grythyttan Vin itself.

The winery is located in Grythyttan, established as a Nordic meal center. Grythyttan Vin has a developing cooperation with Måltidens Hus (House of Meal), Restauranghögskolan (University of restaurant and culinary arts), local food producers and the resturants in the region. It is in this atmosphere Grythyttan Vin works. Grythyttan has become an important venue and a strong trademark, thanks to Carl Jan Granqvist and his efforts.
